Discussion Forums

MSP Collective's discussion forums are where practitioners and vendors have conversations about MSP tools, share knowledge, and help each other solve problems.

Forum Categories

Discussions are organized by product category (the same 17 categories used for product listings) plus general MSP discussion topics. You can also filter by tags and channels.

Posting a New Discussion

  1. Click Discussions in the navigation
  2. Click New Discussion
  3. Fill in:
    • Title — Clear, descriptive title for your topic
    • Content — Your post body (supports Markdown)
    • Tags — Up to 5 tags to help others find your discussion
    • Channel — Optionally assign to a specific channel
  4. Click Post

All new posts go through an automated content safety check. New users (Trust Level 0) have posting rate limits.

Replying to Discussions

Click Reply on any discussion to add your response. Replies support:

  • Markdown formatting — Headers, bold, italic, code blocks, links, and lists
  • Threading — Reply directly to another reply to create a sub-thread
  • Media attachments — Images, videos, and GIFs (available at Trust Level 2+)

Reactions

React to any post or reply with one of 8 reaction types:

Each reaction earns the author 1 reputation point.

Accepted Answers

If you start a discussion with a question, you can mark any reply as the accepted answer:

  1. Find the reply that best answers your question
  2. Click Mark as Answer

The accepted answer is highlighted at the top of the thread. The reply author earns 15 reputation points.

Polls

Contributors (Trust Level 2+) can add polls to discussions:

  • Single choice or multiple choice voting
  • Timed polls — Set an end date for voting
  • Results visible during or after voting

To add a poll, click the Poll button when creating a discussion.

Bookmarks

Save discussions for later by clicking the Bookmark icon. Access your saved discussions from your profile.

Admins and moderators can pin important discussions to the top of a category or channel. Pinned threads are marked with a pin icon and always appear first.

Reporting and Flagging

If a post violates community guidelines:

  1. Click the Flag icon on the post
  2. Select the reason: spam, harassment, inappropriate, misinformation, or other
  3. Submit

Flagged posts enter the moderation queue. See DMCA and Content Reporting for more details.

Forum Moderation

Moderators (Trust Level 4+) can:

  • Remove posts and replies
  • Close or lock discussions
  • Pin and unpin threads
  • Warn users
  • Enable slow mode on heated discussions (throttles posting rate)

All moderation actions are logged with the moderator's ID, reason, and timestamp.

Post Enhancements

Discussions support several enrichment features:

  • Location — Tag your post with a location
  • Feeling/Activity — Add an emoji status to your post
  • Linked Events — Associate a discussion with a community event
  • Livestream — Flag a discussion as a livestream thread
