Prayer Wall
The Prayer Wall is available exclusively on the Church engine. Nonprofits, foundations, and ministries do not have this module.
The Prayer Wall is a shared space where staff and members can submit prayer requests, pray for others, and record answered prayers. It supports public and private visibility levels so sensitive requests remain protected.
Submitting a Prayer Request
- In the sidebar, click Prayer
- Click + New Request
- Fill in the form:
Required:
- Request — the prayer request text
Optional:
- Person Name — who the request is for (defaults to "Anonymous" if omitted)
- Category — Health, Financial, Family, Spiritual, Other
- Visibility — Public, Private, or Prayer Team (see below)
- Anonymous — if checked, hides the submitter's name from the prayer wall
- Click Save
Visibility Levels
| Visibility | Who Can See It |
|---|---|
| Public | All members and visitors with portal access |
| Prayer Team | Only staff and members in the "Prayer Team" group |
| Private | Only staff (not visible to members) |
Use Private for requests shared in confidence that require pastoral care but should not appear on the prayer wall. Use Prayer Team for sensitive requests you want your prayer team to intercede for without broadcasting to the full congregation.
Praying for a Request
Staff and members can click Pray on any request visible to them. Each click increments the prayer_count counter on the request. The requester can see how many people have prayed for their request.
Marking a Prayer as Answered
When a prayer is answered:
- Open the prayer request
- Click Mark as Answered
- Optionally enter an Answered Note describing how it was answered
- Save
Answered prayers are visually distinguished in the prayer wall and can be filtered separately. They remain in the system as a record of God's faithfulness and encourage other members.
Prayer Categories
| Category | Intended Use |
|---|---|
| Health | Physical illness, surgery, recovery, mental health |
| Financial | Job loss, debt, financial provision |
| Family | Marriage, relationships, children, bereavement |
| Spiritual | Salvation, growth, restoration, calling |
| Other | Anything that doesn't fit the above categories |
Anonymous Requests
When Anonymous is checked, the submitter's identity is hidden from the prayer wall but recorded internally for staff. This is important for requests about sensitive situations where the person wants prayer support but not public identification.
Staff with Admin or Owner role can see the original submitter of anonymous requests.
Editing and Removing Requests
Staff can edit any prayer request (to correct wording) or delete it (to remove outdated or resolved requests). Members can edit their own requests.
Inactive requests (prayer request marked with is_active = false) do not appear in the default prayer wall view. Staff can filter to see inactive requests.
Prayer Wall in the Member Portal
When the member portal is configured, members can view the public prayer wall and submit new requests through TheOnePortal. Prayer Team visibility requests appear only to portal users who are in the Prayer Team group.
Best Practices
- Review new requests weekly — Assign a staff member to monitor and triage new prayer requests
- Follow up on marked requests — Reach out to members whose prayers have been answered to celebrate and encourage them
- Train your prayer team — Ensure Prayer Team members understand that Prayer Team visibility requests are confidential
- Archive regularly — Mark inactive old requests to keep the wall current and manageable
