Org Chart

The org chart gives you a visual map of your entire organization — reporting relationships, department groupings, headcount, and budget — all derived from the manager fields on employee records.

Viewing the Org Chart

Navigate to Org Chart in the left navigation. The chart renders as a hierarchical tree with departments at the top level and employees nested beneath their managers.

What you see on each node:

  • Employee name and avatar
  • Job title
  • Department
  • Number of direct reports (if any)

Click any employee node to open their full profile.

Department View

Toggle to Department View to see the org chart grouped by department rather than individual reporting lines. Each department card shows:

  • Department name
  • Department head (if assigned)
  • Total employee count
  • Budget and cost center (visible to admin/HR Manager only)
  • Sub-departments (if nested)

Departments

Creating a Department

  1. Click Manage Departments
  2. Click Add Department
  3. Enter:
    • Name — e.g., "Engineering", "Service Delivery", "Finance"
    • Description — optional context
    • Parent Department — for sub-departments (e.g., "Backend" under "Engineering")
    • Department Head — select an existing employee
    • Budget — annual budget in your currency (visible to admin and HR Manager only)
    • Cost Center — accounting code for this department
  4. Click Save

The new department appears immediately in the org chart and in the department filter across the app.

Editing a Department

  1. In Manage Departments, click the department name
  2. Edit any fields
  3. Click Save

Changes propagate immediately to the org chart and all employee records in that department.

Reorganizing the Hierarchy

To move an employee to a new manager or department:

  1. Open the employee record
  2. Edit the Department and Manager fields
  3. Save

The org chart updates immediately.

💡If you are doing a large reorganization, use Bulk Actions in the employee directory to move groups of employees to a new department at once.

Deleting a Department

Departments are soft-deleted — they are marked inactive and hidden from filters, but historical records are preserved.

  1. In Manage Departments, click the department
  2. Click Delete
  3. Confirm
⚠️Before deleting a department, reassign all employees in that department to another department. Employees in a deleted department will appear without a department assignment.

Headcount Planning

The org chart shows live headcount per department. Use this alongside:

  • Reports > Headcount — historical trends, turnover by department, employment type breakdown
  • Jobs — open roles being recruited against each department
  • Compensation > Summary — salary spend per department (admin only)

Exporting the Org Chart

Click Export from the org chart view to download:

  • PNG — image of the current chart view
  • CSV — flat file of all employees with department and manager columns
ℹ️Export is available to admin, HR Manager, and HR Staff roles.
